Continuing Education
Maintaining your professional credentials requires ongoing continuing education. We're committed to helping you access quality CE opportunities that fit your schedule and learning style.
CE Opportunities
CA-SA of AST hosts multiple continuing education events throughout the year. Our annual conference, workshops, and specialized training sessions all offer CE credits to help you maintain your certification.
- Annual Spring Conference (8 CE hours)

CE Requirements
Certified Surgical Technologists (CST) must complete continuing education to maintain their certification. Understanding these requirements is essential for career planning.
- CSTs need 60 CE credits over 4 years
- Credits must be from approved providers
- Multiple formats accepted (conferences, online courses, etc.)
- Documentation required for recertification

Certification & Recertification

Getting Certified
The Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential is the gold standard for surgical technology professionals. Here's what you need to know:
- Eligibility: Graduation from a CAAHEP-accredited program or military training
- Exam: Computer-based test covering perioperative care and surgical procedures
- Study Resources: Review courses, practice exams, and study guides available
- CA-SA Support: We offer certification preparation workshops throughout the year
Maintaining Your Certification
CST certification must be renewed every four years through continuing education or re-examination:
- Complete 60 CE credits over the 4-year cycle
- Submit renewal application and fee before deadline
- Maintain accurate documentation of CE activities
- Alternative: Retake the CST exam
